Minimum Requirements

We only accept laptops with Intel 8th Generation or newer processors.

Older-generation Intel CPUs (7th Gen or earlier) do not meet our minimum performance standards.

Laptops must have a Ryzen 2nd Generation or newer processor to qualify.

First-generation Ryzen CPUs are not eligible for trade-in.

Devices must have a minimum of 8GB RAM installed.

Laptops with less than 8GB RAM cannot be accepted for trade-in.

Only laptops with a Solid State Drive (SSD) of 256GB or larger are eligible.

Devices with smaller SSDs or traditional HDDs are not accepted.

General Trade-In Questions

Which stores offer the Reboot trade-in service?

At the moment, trade-ins are only available in-store at our Canal Walk and Mall of Africa branches. Online trade-ins are not yet supported.

Do I need to book an appointment or can I just walk-in?

No appointment needed! You’re welcome to walk in anytime during store trading hours for a trade-in assessment.

Which laptop brands qualify for trade-in?

We accept laptops from leading brands, including:

  • ASUS
  • Acer
  • HP
  • Lenovo
  • Dell
  • Apple (MacBook)

Note: Devices must meet our minimum trade-in requirements.

Do desktops or accessories qualify for trade-in?

Currently, we only accept laptops for trade-in. Desktops, monitors, and accessories are not eligible at this time.

Condition & Eligibility

Will you accept my device if it has scratches or cosmetic damage?

Yes, we accept devices with minor cosmetic wear and tear, including light scratches. However, the condition may affect the final trade-in value.

Can I trade in a device that doesn’t power on or has issues?

Unfortunately, we do not accept devices that don’t power on or have major functional issues. Your laptop must be in working condition to qualify for trade-in.

Are there any minimum requirements for a device to be eligible for trade-in?

Yes, all devices must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Intel 8th Gen or newer / Ryzen 2nd Gen or newer
  • At least 8GB of RAM
  • SSD with a capacity of 256GB or more
Do I need to bring the charger or original accessories?

Yes, we require the original charger (or a compatible working charger) to complete the trade-in. Accessories like the original box are not required but can improve your offer slightly.

Will you wipe or format my device before reselling it?

Absolutely. All devices go through a secure data-wipe process before resale, in line with industry best practices.

What if I’ve upgraded my laptop – does that affect trade-in value?

Yes, upgrades such as additional RAM or a larger SSD may positively influence your trade-in offer. Be sure to mention any modifications during the assessment.

Valuation & Offers

How is the value of my device determined?

Your device is assessed based on key factors like brand, model, age, specifications (CPU, RAM, SSD), overall condition, and current market demand. We aim to offer the most competitive trade-in value available.

Is the offer negotiable?

Our technicians provide the best possible offer upfront based on real-time market data. While offers are not negotiable, they are designed to reflect fair and accurate value.

How long does it take to receive a trade-in offer?

You’ll receive your official trade-in offer via email within 48 hours after your device is assessed in-store.

What if I don’t agree with the offer – am I obligated to accept it?

You’re under no obligation to accept the offer. If you decide not to proceed, you can collect your device at any time.

Can I use my trade-in value towards any product in-store?

Yes! If you choose a Computer Mania voucher, it can be used on any product in-store or online

Do you offer more for store credit than cash/EFT?

Yes — in some cases, choosing a Computer Mania voucher may unlock a slightly higher trade-in value than EFT.

Documentation & Payment

What documents do I need to trade in my device?

You'll need to bring the following documents when trading in your device:

- Valid South African ID or Passport
- Proof of Address (Not older than 3 months)

You’ll also be required to complete a
SARS Tax Form, which we’ll provide in-store.

How and when will I get paid once I accept the offer?

Once you accept the offer and submit the required documentation, payment will be processed within 2–3 business days via your chosen method.

Can I choose between EFT or a Computer Mania voucher?

Yes! You can select either:

- Direct EFT to your bank account
- Computer Mania voucher which could exceed the cash offer.

Will I receive a receipt or confirmation after I trade in my device?

Yes. You’ll receive an official confirmation receipt outlining your trade-in details, offer amount, and payment method.
